HAZLITT 1852 VINEYARDS HOMESTEAD RESERVE RIESLING NAMED CHAIRMAN’S BEST OF CLASS AT THE LONG BEACH GRAND CRU INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION IN CALIFORNIA
Hazlitt’s newly-released White Cat also wins Gold.
Hector, NY (July 30, 2007) — Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards was named Chairman’s Best of Class for its 2006 Homestead Reserve Riesling at the 2007 Long Beach Grand Cru International Wine Competition in California this month. In addition, the winery received Gold Medal for its Niagara White Cat and Silver Medals for its Pinot Gris and Riesling, both 2006 vintage.
“The Finger Lakes region is known as one of the most up-and-coming producers of fine Rieslings” comments Doug Hazlitt, Vice-President of Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards. “To be recognized as Best of Class against winemakers from around the world confirms our commitment to making the best Riesling available, from local New York State resources.”
Hazlitt 1852 Vineyard’s Homestead Reserve Riesling grapes are hand-selected from family heritage vines growing adjacent to the Eastern shore of Seneca Lake. This dryer style Riesling brings aromas of ripe pear and tropical fruit that lead to full citrus and mineral flavors that linger on the palate.
The Long Beach Grand Cru is an international wine competition and culinary experience created and hosted by the Long Beach office of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, California. Established in 1988, the Grand Cru now welcomes more than 400 producers and over 1,200 wine entries from 23 states and 11 countries. Its panel of judges is led by Chief Judge Dan Berger, wine columnist and contributor to Gourmet magazine.
