Job Title: Wine Bartender

Reports to: Tasting Room Supervisor

Job Overview: We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Wine Bartender to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for wine, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to create a welcoming atmosphere. You will be responsible for guiding guests through our wine offerings, making recommendations, serving wine and wine-based cocktails, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience.

Essential functions of the Job:

  • Greet guests warmly and create a memorable wine experience.
  • Educate guests on wine selection, pairing options, and the wine list.
  • Prepare and serve wines, wine-based cocktails, and other beverages in accordance with company standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized bar area, including glassware, tools, and wine displays.
  • Monitor and restock wine inventory; assist with receiving and storing wine deliveries.
  • Stay current on wine trends, new releases, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol service regulations.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen and service team to enhance food and wine pairings.
  • Upsell wines and contribute to meeting beverage sales targets.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Educate guests about our wine, brand, and heritage
  • Uphold the reputation for our famous Hazlitt hospitality
  • Be an ambassador for the area and make quality recommendations
  • Maintain, in cooperation with other tasting room staff, the cleanliness of the tasting room, restrooms, kitchen/storage room and outside winery grounds
  • Assist with execution of opening/closing duties, afternoon to evening availability a must
  • Assist with special events and outside functions as needed
  • Uphold N.Y.S. Law: check ID’s of anyone who appears under the age of 30; do not serve anyone who is visibly intoxicated, etc.
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary for the successful operation of the winery

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a bartender, sommelier, or wine steward (1–3 years preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of wines, regions, grape varieties, and pairings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be of legal age to serve alcohol and possess any required state/local certifications.
  • Work efficiently and follow company standards with or without immediate supervision
  • Extend professionalism and courtesy at all times to customers and co-workers
  • Able to lift 40 pounds regularly and stand for long periods of time
  • This job requires regular weekend and holiday availability
