Why the Name "Red Cat?"
Red Cat may seem like a strange name for a wine, but like so much at Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards, there's a story behind it...
Back in the 1980s, pink Catawba wines were very popular, but founder, Jerry Hazlitt, wanted to stand out and be different. So, he got creative and added red hybrid grapes to give the wine a rich, ruby red color.
The name for this wine was simple – red, from the vibrant color, plus a nickname given to the Catawba grapes by Jerry and his father: "the cats".
From this combination Red Cat, or more literally Red Catawba, was born.
Red Cat is about breaking down barriers. It was made to bring fun, relaxation, and good times. That is why you can see the fun-loving Red Cat prominently featured on the label in his famous hot tub.
