Assistant Winemaker | Hazlitt Red Cat Cellars • Naples, NY

Job Title:  Assistant Winemaker
Reports to:  Winemaker
Job Location:  Naples, NY

Job Overview:  This position is responsible for carrying out the daily activities of the wine cellar operations, as directed by the Winemaking staff.  The ideal candidate will provide direction to the cellar master and his cellar team while ensuring our products, and our co-packing clients products, are maintaining superior quality and integrity from bulk juice to bottling line readiness.  This candidate will possess an ongoing desire to learn about, excel in and contribute to an environment designed to make world class quality wines.

Full-Time (40+ hours/wk average)
Pay Range $75,000-$125,000*
*Salary commensurate with experience

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assists Winemaking Team with the coordinating and directing of all aspects of grape and wine processing. Receiving grapes, crushing, fermentation, filtration, stabilization, blending, bench trials, bottling, quality control and finishing of wines
  • Assists Winemaking Team with quality assessments of fermentations and bulk wines prior to finishing
  • Assists Winemaking Team with writing fermentation parameters and additions.
  • Assists Winemaking Team with writing finished blend parameters and additions
  • Primary responsibility of all cellar records keeping and cellar work orders
  • Lead the Cellar Master and operators to maintain wine quality
  • Assist with cellar work as needed

Qualifications:

  • BS in Enology or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with, and coordinate different personnel in various areas of the winemaking and bottling facility
  • Excellent computer skills, especially excel spreadsheets and proprietary databases
